A movie I watched recently

I’ve always considered that when a fictional work is able to make you feel something using their different narrative techniques, that work becomes much more memorable. And I’m not talking only about joy or anger, as those are the most common one. I’m talking about when something makes you feel intrigued, uneasy, confused, or simply is thought provoking. And the movie that I’m gonna talk about today was able to do all that and even more.

“Perfect Blue” is a 1997 Psychological Thriller animated movie, directed by Satoshi Kon. The movie follows the ex pop idol Mima Kirigoe, who, after leaving her musical group, debuts as an actress in an adult televisión drama. The movie centers around how she struggles to break into the showbiz, while dealing with the pressure of being a television star and the harassment of her fans, slowly descending into madness.

The reason I like this film is mainly because of how the mistery is presented. It would be hard to describe it without spoiling what makes it good, but to sum it up, you never know exactly what is happening, but you know exactly how to feel about it. In “Perfect Blue”, a lot of bad stuff happens, and most of it is really explicit and hard to sit through (I had to look away in some part, but the sound direction was enough to creep me out), so I wouldn’t recommend  it to someone who doesn’t like that kind of stuff. However, if you are into Psychological Thrillers, this is a must watch.
